Camp Tuscarora 2006 Packing List
We strongly suggest a pop-up mosquito net that sits on your cot, similar to the link below.
All scout belongings should be stored in a storage tote (under 30 gallons) labeled with your scouts name and Troop Number. It should fit underneath the cot that is about 30 inches high, similar to the link below.
PRO TIP: It is helpful to label your Scouts clothing with name and Troop Number. Storing each days clothes in clear Zip Lock bag helps with organization and encourages them to change daily!
Departure For Camp
Please meet at the American Legion on Sunday, 5 July at 7:30AM to depart promptly at 8:00AM. We will be stopping for lunch. Please send $20 with your scout for lunch. Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
Care Packages
Packages, letters, and Amazon deliveries are welcomed at camp. Mail is delivered to unit leaders at meals. It takes about 3-4 days for mail to reach a Scout once it is mailed (so plan accordingly). Please be sure to include the name and the troop number of the Scout on any mail. Mail to campers should be addressed as follows:

Prohibited Items
Summer camps prohibit the following items.
- Electronic devices (like phones, game systems, etc.)
- Sheath knives, axes
- Saws
- Fireworks
- Weapons of any kind
- Pets
Our Troop allows cellphones white traveling but they must be turned into the Scoutmaster upon arrival at camp. See the Troop Handbook for additional details.
Open toed shoes are only allowed at the waterfront area. Closed-toed shoes are required everywhere else around camp including when walking to aquatic areas.
Bicycles
Bikes are permitted at camp but they must be transported by parents and must be coordinated independently from the troop. The troop takes no responsibility and cannot assist with bicycle transportation. Helmets are required.
Trading Post
The trading post is open most of the day and has many items that your Scout may want to purchase. You’ll find a wide variety of items including camping supplies, Camp Tusky apparel, snacks, slushies, drinks, souvenirs, and much more.
The average spend per scout is $50 at the camp store per week.
Some snacks will be provided by the Troop.
First Year Scouts
All first year Scouts Summer campers will be partaking in the camp’s first year program. Scouts should be prepared with a mess kit, flashlight, sleeping bag, rain gear, paper and pencil, pocket knife, water bottle, small personal first aide kit, scout book and a backpack to carry it in. Exceptions to the the first year program may be approved by the Scoutmaster but must be discussed/approved before camp.
Merit Badges
Merit Badges have already been selected. Pre-reqs have been sent by Mr Capen. Any changes to MBs must be done at camp. Please work your pre-reqs as soon as possible to help successfully earn all your badges at camp.
Dietary Restrictions
Please inform Mr. Capen of any/all dietary restrictions or requests by 18 June. Any additions/changes to the meal program after that time cannot be guaranteed to be honored by the camp.
Swimming Attire
Camp specifically requires modest swimwear for all attendees. Speedos and Bikinis are explicitly forbidden.
Medication
General/daily medications are not to be kept with the Scouts but should be turned in to Mr. Gerrit before departing camp. These will be stored appropriately and issued as needed/directed to the scouts. Life saving medicine such as EpiPens are excluded from this requirement and are the Scouts responsibility unless coordinated with the adult leadership.
Returning Home
We will be returning to the American Legion immediately upon camp dismissal. Look for a text from your scout or an adult leader with an ETA once we are underway. We hope to be home before 3:00PM on Saturday.
